I am an ex-corp member, and I served in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, from February 15th 2024 to February 15th 2025. With the experience I got in Obubra Camp, Cross River State, I will drop every single piece of information I know on this page to guide you through. So, let’s keep going. Some of these kits will be provided in the camp. So, you don’t need to worry about the cost of acquiring all the items.

- Khaki Cap: Only one khaki cap will be given to you. You’re to make sure that you keep it safe and secured.
- NYSC Crested Vest: The NYSC crested vest is a round neck white T-shirt with NYSV logo on it. You can only wear it on any important NYSC program, such as passing out parades and other important programs.
- White round neck T-shirt: This is one of the kit that you will wear the most while at camp and during your CDS (Community development service) clearance.
- Khaki boot: This boot can be oversized or undersized. You may be able to replace them anyway if allowed in that particular camp. Alternatively, you can exchange from someone.
- Khaki jacket: Over 70% of the khaki jackets given out are oversized. But you don’t need to panic. There is always a market inside the camp called “Mami Market.” There, you can adjust it.
- Khaki trouser: The trouser information is similar to that of the Khaki jacket. Make sure you don’t lose any of them while serving as an NYSC corp member.
- NYSC socks: The NYCS socks have its logo on them. But you can put on any white socks. As far as the socks you are putting on are white, the camp or NYSC officials will not disturb you.
- Canvas: Apart from the first time I wore the NYSC canvas given to me, I didn’t even wear it again till date. I always wear the khaki boot. Make sure you purchase a canvas before coming to the camp anyway. The rubber canvas is quite affordable and the most used in NYSC especially during camp activities.
- Khaki belt: The khaki belt is unique. It is not an ordinary belt. It has a rubber head that contains the NYSC logo on it. It makes you look like a real NYSC corp member.
- Meal ticket: This is one of the most important item in the camp. Without the meal ticket, you won’t be able to eat while in camp. The meal ticket will be given to you at the last stage of registration inside the camp.
Daily needs in NYSC camp
These are important items recommended before going to the camp:
- Power bank
- Phone
- Ladies bathroom/personal needs
- Medication (If you’re on medication)
- Blanket and Bed sheet
- Food flask
- Mosquito net
- Padlock
- Detergent for washing
- Bucket
- Toiletries
Items not Allowed Inside the NYSC Camp
Inside the camp, there are items that are not allowed. Although your bags will be searched before entering inside the camp, but I’m just letting you know about it. Some items not allowed in the camp are:
- Raw food e.g. Noodles
- Mattress
- Cooking items
- Erotic objects
- Weapons
- Vehicles
- Raw Food: NYSC provides enough food for everyone inside the camp. All you need to do is just come with a small or medium sized portable flask. So, you don’t need to come with some raw items such as yam, noodles, meat etc. Alternatively, you can come with soaking garri, golden morn e.tc.
- Mattress: There are many rooms and beds available to the Corp members inside the camp. The room is just like a hostel anyway.
- Cooking items: Gas or stove are never allowed to be carried inside the camp except for the officials in charge of cooking for those in the camp. Even plate is not needed. A single flask that probable has another plate inside is enough.
- Erotic objects: The camp is a place to be trained and equipped with educational and physical experiences, not for unnecessary pleasures. Any erotic items found with you will be seized and probably never returned to you.
- Weapons: Any type of weapon is not allowed. You are not going to the camp to fight with anyone. The security teams inside the camp are well equipped to protect you from any form of attack if the need arise. Although it is rare. But don’t go with any weapon, even if it is just a knife to cut bread. Visit the kitchen to do that or use your hand.
- Vehicles: Any form of vehicle is not allowed inside the camp. If you come with a personal vehicle, make sure someone drives it back home. Since they will not allow you to pack it inside the camp, keeping it outside the camp might be risky.
Is School ID Card a must to provide?
The answer is ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. If you have only statement of result, then it is a ‘Yes’. But if you have school original result, the ID card is not a must to provide.
How much should I take while going to camp?
Once you have the requirements listed above, you just need to have some pocket money, and that is all. Food, beds, and camp cloths will be provided to you, including the ones you came with. The pocket money includes the funds you will use to shape your clothes if needed, buy extra food (if you want to), and other miscellaneous.
